AAM Welcomes Four New Buyer Directors

Director elections were announced at AAM’s annual business meeting. See who was re-elected and get to know some new faces.

During AAM’s annual business meeting, the results of the director elections were announced including the election of four new directors. Get to know each of the new directors and see who is returning to the AAM board.

Helen Burkholder, Dick's Sporting GoodsHelen Burkholder, Media Director and Senior Manager of Print, Dick’s Sporting Goods

Helen Burkholder joins the AAM board representing U.S. advertisers. Burkholder is a marketing professional with more than 27 years of experience in retail. After working her way through graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh, earning her MBA, she began her career at Kaufmann’s Department Store. Starting in the accounting area, she leveraged her finance background to oversee the marketing budget and eventually became the manager for all newspaper advertising. She has been with Dick’s Sporting Goods for the last 15 years, managing national and local media campaigns involving print, broadcast, OOH and digital. She currently directs print and paper procurement along with print media, and works closely with agencies and vendors.

Burkholder worked with NGM Partners to set up the Retail Advertiser Group, an independent group of retail marketing professionals who network and share best practices in the industry. 

She is also on the Advertising Advisory Board for the News Media Alliance.


Jeanne C. Finegan, HF Media, LLCJeanne C. Finegan, President and Chief Media Officer, HF Media, LLC.

Jeanne Finegan joins the AAM board representing U.S. advertising agencies. As president and chief media officer of HF Media, LLC., she was named by Diversity Journal as one of the Top 100 Women Worth Watching and has more than 30 years of communications and advertising experience as a distinguished legal notice and communications expert. During her tenure, she has planned and implemented more than 1,000 high-profile, complex legal notice communications programs. She is recognized as a notice expert in the U.S. and Canada, with extensive international experience.

Due to her class action experience, courts have recognized the merits of, and admitted expert testimony based on, her scientific evaluation of the effectiveness of notice plans. She has designed legal notices for a wide range of class actions and consumer matters that include product liability, construction defect, antitrust, medical/pharmaceutical, human rights, civil rights, telecommunication, media, environment, government enforcement actions, securities, banking, insurance, mass tort, restructuring and product recall.


Erik O'Connor, CVS HealthErik O’Connor, Senior Marketing Manager, CVS Health

Erik O’Connor joins the AAM board representing U.S. advertisers. O’Connor has been with CVS Health since 1988. He has served in several roles including store manager, operations specialist, category manager and most recently senior marketing manager. He has been responsible for the creation and delivery of the print media program serving 8,000 stores utilizing 1,400 newspapers for the past nine years.



Cheryl Sone, Ulta Beauty


Cheryl Sone, Director of Media Brand Marketing, Ulta Beauty

Chery Sone also joins the AAM board representing U.S. advertisers. As director of media, Sone leads brand media for the Fortune 500 specialty beauty retailer, Ulta Beauty. She joined Ulta Beauty in 2010 and throughout her tenure, she has been recognized for her leadership in transforming Ulta Beauty’s national media mix and elevating brand awareness. 

Responsible for a multi-million dollar budget, Sone also manages the brand and print ad agencies as well as an internal team. She actively participates in the Association of National Advertisers and is a member of Cosmetic Executive Women.

Sone started her career on the ad agency side, spending 10 years specializing in QSR media. With more than 30 years of experience leading strategy, media planning and buying for brands such as McDonald’s, Chevrolet, GotMilk?, Honeywell and NAPA Auto Parts, Sone is a disciplined and experienced professional with expertise across all media channels.

Sone is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in marketing.  She also graduated from McDonald’s Media School.
